RSW High King Tourbillon

Posted by Dennis Ramillo on 5th September 2008

The majestic qualities of the High King Tourbillon starts with its most visible part, the 44mm case made from 18k pink gold. It has a complex pierced bezel, and a protected crown utilizing crank-down mechanism. This magnificent case holds and displays an equally majestic black dial with the hour markers and the javelin-shaped hands acting as efficient accents. The hands are also of pink gold.

At the upper right rests the sub-dial for the retrograde date display. The smaller, lower-right sub-dial is the power reserve indicator. At the 9 o’clock lies the next majestic quality, the proudly displayed tourbillon cage.

Inspired by the magnificence and warmth of the sun, this timepiece is limited to an edition of just 25 pieces. It is hand-wound and uses the RSW 1910.54 caliber, a 17-jewel movement. Full power reserve is a plentiful 120 hours. Sapphire crystal are fitted at both the front and the back.

Corum Golden Bridge Haute Joaillerie

Posted by Dennis Ramillo on 5th September 2008

It’s so easy to get lost in the glare and sparkles of the luxury gems and expensive metals of the Golden Bridge Haute Joaillerie from CORUM, the same manufacturer of the famous Admiral’s Cup and Romvlvs wristwatches. Blinded by its extravagance, most people seldom notice the equally captivating architecture, both inside and out. This makes the Golden Bridge Haute Joaillerie not only a valuable jewelry but a marvel of watch design and mechanical prowess.

The Golden Bridge got its name from “its extraordinary manually wound movement, which placed the winding works, going train, and escapement in a straight line, mounted on a single bridge made from 18K gold.”

The bridge is displayed on an engaging case with transparent sapphire crystals on both sides. We are treated to a very breathtaking view of the winding bridge with its intricate designs on the front. At the back, the mechanical movements can be fully seen.

The first Golden Bridge watch was unveiled in 1980. Corum, in a move to update this classic hit, made subtle, yet significant changes. The case is now being offered as made from either 18k rose, yellow, or white gold, or platinum. The bridge was also strengthened and certain mechanisms were added to prevent damage due to overwinding.

The Haute Joailerrie version is as extravagant as any jewelry watch. Baguette-cut diamonds or sapphires, or rubies were used extensively and quite generously. It is also fitted with a matching diamond bracelet completing its image as an elegant and a luxurious wrist watch/jewelry. The classic Golden Bridge watch is back, and it’s sparkling like no other.

Balmain Chain Watch

Posted by Dennis Ramillo on 3rd September 2008

All curves, the Balmain Chain Watch exudes elegance and style. Rings abound, from the circular dial to its steel chain bracelet, and those saying that circular watches are boring might want to reconsider. There are plenty of reasons to be excited about this watch, as most watch connoisseurs are finding out.

The dial is of mother-of-pearl, presented with an engaging arabesque (a complex, ornate design of intertwined floral, foliate, and geometric figures) that seems to shift from one form to another while the two-toned hands dance on its surface. No wonder Balmain holds arabesques dearly. They provide a mysterious element to their watches. The black dial version is reminiscent of night skies, the luminescent indexes like stars sparkling in the glorious blackness of the dial’s face.

All these are contained inside a steel case polished to dazzling perfection. It looks as light as a feather, perhaps because of its sleek, corner-less surface. True to the case’ shape, the chain bracelet is made up of shiny linked steel rings. This not only adds to the elegance of this timepiece, it’s flexibility in conforming to wrists makes the Balmain Chain Watch easy to wear. It adjusts easily to the size and contours of all wrists, much like a necklace would.

Balmain has once again come up with an excellent contribution to the art of watch making, and it has done so with style and elegance. The Balmain Chain Watch shines and sparkles, wooing people with its curves.

As a watch complication, tourbillion has been utilized and featured on several luxury watches. Vertalis though, a new watch from Louis Moinet, is being considered as one of the best tourbillon watch in existence. This is according to majority of watch experts who’ve seen and analyzed the watch in action.

Several reasons make the Vertalis stand out, the most visible of which is the design. Its elegance and style is quite refreshing, unique in its presentation and inspiring with its beauty and charm. Aesthetics is combined with mechanical prowess, evident in how many parts the case alone has. In case you’re wondering, it has 50 parts made from either 5N red gold or white gold. This fusion of red gold and white gold gives this watch an unusual glow with the red gold providing the sheen and gloss and the white gold accentuating the overall look.

If you turn the watch over, the second reason why Vertalis is considered an excellent watch comes into view. Via the see-through case-back, the architecture and the technology that powers this watch is presented in all its glory. Moving perfectly, the mechanical parts moves as if dancing to a set beat and rhythm. The intricacies, patience, and the talent involved in the making of this watch make it a gem.

Special Summer from Century

Posted by Dennis Ramillo on 1st September 2008

In the world of glamour and luxury, Century had already established themselves as extraordinary watchmakers. Having the honor of producing the first ever sapphire watches, Century built on that and is now considered one of the best in the production of timepieces with durable sapphire cases.

Sapphire is the second hardest substances next to diamond. Century’s exclusive process involves bonding the middle of the sapphire case to the sapphire crystal. This forms what Century calls as the ‘monolith’, a single unit, and it is further polished and cut with extreme precision according a watch’s design.

Featuring this exclusive technique is the newest watch from Century, an addition to the Prime Time Egos Chronograph GMT, and is aptly called ‘special summer’. This 12-sided, 42mm design is not an entirely new though, just a reincarnation of Century’s signature design that gives tribute to the hot and balmy summer and the magical nights it brings.

The sapphire case is framed by red gold. On the white dial, there are 3 sub-dials showing the seconds, minutes, and the hours. A date indicator is at the 3 o’clock position. The watch can be attached to the wrist using an exotic white alligator strap with red gold deployment clasps. The strap remarkably brings out this watch’s beauty and elegance even more, its white color acting as the perfect opposite compliment to the case’s red gold tint.

Century has once again gifted the world with an exquisite jewelry watch. Not only is this watch beautiful, with its durable, nearly-indestructible case, it could possibly stand the test of time.
