Volume 6 Issue 6 - continued

The other brands are where the real watches are made and they come under the umbrella of SWATCH the company, not the SWATCH WATCH! I really took a look at Glashütte, Breguet, Tissot and Omega and they are all holding onto their own histories. Each company has its own executive strata and each company has its own budget, goals and dreams.

What impressed me was that Breguet is producing some of the most beautiful watches in its history. (See the story by Natalie Campisi in this issue.) The quality is as good as the technology gets. The design and engineering is superb. I have to say that SWATCH has only complemented and enhanced both the image and quality of one of my favorite watch companies.

My concerns were uncalled for. They were concerns based on my personal emotions regarding Breguet – and not on the facts. I have to acknowledge that I should have looked and seen the products before writing anything about the watch or the company.

Glashütte has also grown with the backing of SWATCH. Some of their new products are of the BEST German craftsmanship that is without equal in the world.

Omega is still Omega and I can see that there is some co-mingling between the brands at SWATCH. I also can see that Omega will take some of the know-how and technology from Glashütte and Breguet and the other SWATCH products – and that all the brands will share in what has been known to work for them and they will help each other.

Tissot has always been in its own niche and always ahead of the rest of the world in trying new things. It also has grown and is now producing some of the most innovative products in the industry.

Well I think that I have set the record straight. My original concerns were based on the fear of the worst happening and I was very, very happy when I actually took a look to see what was being produced. My compliments to SWATCH! A year ago I didn’t think I would say that, but I was wrong.

More about some of the other SWATCH products in a later issue!

As I write this, I am on my way to the Hong Kong Watch and Clock Fair. More about that appears in this issue on pages 48-49.

Thank you to all of our advertisers, journalists, and printers and also to ALL of the staff here as well as all of those who helped in general. A “special thanks” to our readers – and especially to our very loyal subscribers. Without you, none of this would be possible. To another 5 years!

We seem to get better each and every issue. We are now moving into the Airline Terminal bookstores and other great distribution areas. If we advance as much as the watch industry has advanced in the last five years, we will be doing great.

Thanks for watching.

— Urich (and all the staff)
