| The cases have been designed to the nth degree. Every angle, every screw and each attachment was gone over with much attention to detail. The two brothers even went so far as to create their own “type” of “case screw.” (There is a special tool used to lock the screws down and to open the case).
Just the fact that they would go to the major expense to create their own “brand specific” screw tells me that these guys are really going for the watch geeks of the world.
They do use a standard ETA movement, but I would predict that they will have their own movement. The beginnings of this watch brand are too much like the beginnings of some other brands that originated over 100 years ago! You can’t tell me that these two brothers are not magically in touch with watchmakers from some earlier time.
Take Franck Muller’s genius and other of today’s prodigies out there – not only in the watch industry, but also in music or art. Where do they get these abilities? I don’t think they make them up. There is some thread or ghost from the past that is facilitating the genius in them.
The brothers are Alexander T. Kuhnle and Dominik Kuhnle and the name of the watch is Scalfaro. Take a look at their web site: www.scalfaro.ch. I wish them all the best. Look at their watches and you will see what’s in the future.
Officina del Tempo: Italian, of course. The detail, the finish, the look and feel – and the price is very affordable! These are fun watches and they should be selling at a much higher price. With the holidays coming up, these are the watches to buy. They look good and anyone would be more than happy to have one. These are watches that will get attention from anyone looking at your wrist. Great watches to wear with jeans! www.officinadeltempo.com
Buti: The same company in Miami that distributes Officina del Tempo also has the Buti brand. A very special Italian brand! Buti has been around for a long time and is very well known in Italy. Finally they are now here in the USA. This brand is created with the use of all the modern ideas and technology that Scalfaro enjoys.
Buti is going after the mid to high-end market. They want the buyers of Panerai and JeanRichard and Girard-Perregaux to buy their watches. The designer and founder of this brand is Tommaso Buti. You will see the large “TB” on the dial. www.tbbuti.com | | I like the Michelangelo model. It has an automatic Dubois-Dépraz modification on top of the ETA 2892-2 base, with a power reserve of 40 hrs.
The cases are totally well made with three pieces of stainless steel. “The devil is in the detail,” someone once said and you can see that this company had a devil of a time making the curves and designs come to life with this watch brand. Take a look at the cut-out lugs and the well-done bezel.
The dials are Italian by design and look Mediterranean — but there is an aesthetic harmony that filters through, saying, “luxury and the best of Italian design and function.”
NEXT:
The past has risen again – and with museum quality the likes of Sattler Clock and designs that Frank Lloyd Wright would be proud of! Reuge music boxes are no longer just music boxes. These things are works of “Musical Art.” No longer the familiar music machine in a box – beautiful as it is and was – but now with designs that will blow you away.
These are musical sculptures. They are mechanical masterpieces that will have people around you telling you to close your mouth. Your jaw will go slack and you will have the familiar “Boy in Love, Boy in Lust” look. Along with the look will be accompanied the miscommunication to the body parts — and the feet may move, but your eyes will remain riveted to these pieces. The awkward moments of teens when they see their first love or rock star will come to you as you try to regain some composure. These are spectacular! I have been mesmerized! See for yourself at www.reugemusic.com.
This is an interesting issue, with the A-Z of watches. Certainly, these are not all the watches that we saw (or that we would like to put in the magazine) but it’s all the space we could allocate to this section.
Thanks for watching.
