Movado is the largest selling Swiss watch brand in the United States at the $500 to $2000 price point. They have done this by offering excellent quality at a reasonable price. Movado has also managed to keep their style and brand interest current. Well, the Museum turns sixty and even an Icon has to go in for a little body work. What came out of the Movado workshop was, in short, watch perfection. The Museum is based on simple, clean lines with a very classic appeal.

For its sixtieth birthday an open heart has been added. The open heart is positioned at 6:00 with the Movado “M” chevron centered on the wheel bridge appointed with a red sub second hand. Movado has once again turned to ETA using the new version of their 17 jewel movement. The movement is set in place with steel holders for better wear and performance. Attention has been paid to the all aspects of this watch, the case is white gold so is the buckle. The strap is large grain Alligator (thank you). It is clear that the 60th Anniversary addition is a point of pride for the company. True to their standards Movado has produced a watch which is both wearable and collectable. A true watch geek will buy this watch, wear this watch, love this watch and most of all keep this watch. Jeffrey Cohen (Movado President, Worldwide) pointed out ”The watch industry is always changing styles preferences, materials and competition so to maintain our market share we have to pay attention to and respond to the consumer” The watch makes a statement which is that Movado listens to their customer base, likes their customer base and doesn’t take it for granted. The Museum dial will forever be a fixture in the watch industry and it is nice to see Movado as the Gate Keeper wants to keep it evolving. My guess is there are interesting developments on the horizon.
The Museum Open Heart 60th anniversary edition continues to be a museum piece. Movado has done something which is rare: to take an icon, update it, and not detract from what made it so beloved. True to the Nathan George Horwitt credo of modern simplicity, the 60th anniversary edition does its forefathers proud. There will be a number of Museum Open Heart models produced encompassing a broad price range. If you are going to purchase one new watch this year, this updated version should be at the top of your short list.
